About me

My name is Allyson Lessman and I started The Ruff Outdoors with the goal of combining two things I am very passionate about, dogs and the outdoors. Once you bring a dog into your home, they become a loving family member. It can be hard leaving our loved ones behind while we go to work and tackle our busy schedules. I know this first hand as an owner of two dogs, while working over 40 hours a week. It can be frustrating not being able to provide the love and care your dogs need due to other commitments. Dog's crave a leader, companionship, socialization, structure, mental and phycical activity, and affection. Sometimes the reality of careers, family, and other obligations can leave our dogs to take a back seat. The Ruff Outdoors offers a solution to breaking up your dog's long day so that both you and your dog can relax and enjoy time at home. Imagine getting off work and going home to a tired and relaxed dog, leaving you more time to relax, enjoy your family and knowing your dogs needs are met. No more late night walks or play sessions after a long day at work; we take care of this for you!

We realize not all dogs are the same. Some dogs can really struggle with traditional doggy daycare. Being confined to a small area with lots of other dogs can make an anxious dog more anxious. While it might seem like a good thing for the dog, it can actually cause more stress and behavioral problems at home. The Ruff Outdoors keeps our packs small to help create lasting friendships between the pack members. We focus a lot on only rewarding calm behavior at camp which helps your dog behave more calmly at home too!

Not all dogs can read other dog's ques and this can lead to aggression. The Ruff Outdoors evaluates each dog to understand them so we can be a strong leader to advocate for them. We strive to make sure all dogs are comfortable, safe, and respectful to each other and having fun at camp!

I have taken many online workshops, attended Training Between The Ears Workshops, completed the My Dog Camp online course, and apprenticed with the founder, Rhonda Bilodeau, of Vermont Dog Pack and My Dog Camp!
